3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is a synthetic hallucinogenic party drug that alters mood and perceptions, increases energy, and distorts time and other sensations.
MDMA has a number of street names and slang terms used by those who use, sell, or manufacture the drug.
Street Names & Slang Terms For MDMA
MDMA can be found under a variety of brand names and street names. What it’s called depends on who is selling it, who made it, or who is using it. This can make it difficult to know what you’re getting.
There are also drugs like GHB, which is called “liquid ecstasy” but does not contain MDMA at all. It’s a completely different drug.
Some of the most common street names and slang terms for MDMA include:

What Else Can Ecstasy Be Mixed With?
Ecstasy is also often mixed with other drugs like alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and anti-depressant prescription drugs.
Additionally, ecstasy can be mixed with other substances without the person using it even knowing.
Those trying to stretch ecstasy further and make more money may produce ecstasy pills mixed with over-the-counter cough medicine, cathinones (“bath salts”), opioids like fentanyl, ketamine, LSD, and cocaine. This can make taking ecstasy very dangerous.

MDMA Drug Facts

- The side effects of MDMA drug use can include increased motor activity, alertness, high body temperature/hyperthermia, increased heart rate, and high blood pressure.
- MDMA is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This means it has no safe medical use and a high potential for abuse.
- MDMA can be used in many different ways including swallowing capsules, liquid, or tablets, snorting powder, or crushing tablets and then snorting them. It can also be smoked but that’s pretty rare.
Who Uses MDMA?
MDMA is predominantly used by males between the ages of 18 and 25 and use begins typically around the age of 21 years old.
College students and other young adults who go to nightclubs, raves, festivals, and parties are also more likely to use the drug than those who don’t go to these events as often.
