Fitchburg Alcohol and Drug Outpatient Rehab Questions

Before we answer some common questions, let’s quickly compare inpatient and outpatient rehab. Inpatient treatment means you live at the facility, usually for more serious cases. Outpatient is when you live elsewhere, making it much less expensive.

Where should I go to receive the best alcohol and drug outpatient treatment near Fitchburg?

You should choose an outpatient program that can tailor your treatment to meet your needs. In other words, during the intake process you’ll review your medical and psychological history with the staff.

You’ll also go over addiction history in your family as well as any relapses you may have had. All this information will help them create a customized treatment plan that will work best for you.

Northeast Addictions Treatment Center is an outpatient rehab located just 1 hour away from Fitchburg in Quincy, MA. We can work with you to create a customized treatment plan and we pride ourselves on providing a safe and compassionate environment for our patients.

What do I look for in an outpatient rehab facility?

First and foremost, the facility should feel comfortable and safe. It should also employ treatment professionals who are compassionate and empathetic to your situation. The last thing you need is judgment or discomfort – these can derail your efforts to get sober.

You should also look for an outpatient rehab that uses a wide variety of evidence-based treatments (EBTs). These are methods that have been proven by scientific research and clinical experience. To put it simply: these methods work.

Northeast Addictions Treatment Center uses multiple forms of EBT, giving you more options when developing your customized treatment plan.

Is addiction treatment necessary for recovery?

In most cases, yes, it is. Addiction is just too powerful. But there’s no shame in asking for help. In fact, that takes a lot of courage.

That being said, let’s take a look at some figures:

  • Without addiction treatment, the relapse rate after one year is 90%
  • Proper addiction treatment can reduce this risk by 40 to 50%.

As you can see, getting proper treatment gives you a much better chance for success. Choosing outpatient treatment means you’ll save your finances and retain some freedom. Plus, the right program will teach you all the tools you need to curb cravings, resist temptation, and manage stress

Northeast Addictions Treatment Center offers innovative outpatient treatment. We’ve structured the program to help you succeed. Plus, outpatient treatment is less expensive, making it preferable for many addicts.

Types of Rehab Programs in Fitchburg

Outpatient might be the right choice for you, but let’s take a moment to look at the types of rehab programs. That way, you can get a better understanding of your options.

Detox Program

In some cases, a person will have to go through detox. That’s because the withdrawal symptoms that occur can be dangerous, so they’re kept in a medically-supervised environment. Medications may even be administered to keep them safe and stable. However, this is usually reserved for severe cases of alcohol or opioid addiction.

It is possible to attend a detox program before you go to outpatient treatment. You should speak to treatment professionals to see if this situation applies to you. Northeast Addictions Treatment Center does not offer detox, but we can refer you to a program. Once you complete the detox (usually 3 to 10 days), you can then start our outpatient treatment.

Residential Inpatient Program

As we mentioned above, this is when you live at the treatment center. An inpatient program is usually 30 days and six months. Essentially, it offers the same treatment methods as an outpatient program. It’s just more intense and a greater commitment of time.

That being said, inpatient programs are almost always more expensive. Additionally, it may seem more drastic, especially if it’s your first time getting treatment. There are many patients who benefit more from outpatient rehab.

Outpatient Treatment Program

With an outpatient program, you don’t live at the treatment center. Instead, you undergo treatment during the day, usually a few days a week. This makes it both more flexible and less expensive than inpatient. As a result, insurance companies are more likely to cover outpatient rehab, especially if it’s your first time.

This type of treatment may include therapy, counseling, 12-Step support groups, and medication. All of these are EBTs, meaning that they’ve been proven to work. The best outpatient programs will offer a variety of these methods to give you a customized treatment plan.

That being said, this program is most effective when it’s at least 90 days. If possible, it’s even more effective if it’s up to six months. Research has consistently shown that longer treatment results in stronger recovery.

At Northeast Addictions Treatment Center, we offer two basic types of outpatient treatment:

  • Day Program - This is the most intense program and it’s also known as partial hospitalization. With a day program, you’ll attend Monday through Friday for 6 to 8 hours a day. This will come out to about 30 to 40 hours a week.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) - We also offer IOP, a less intense and more flexible method. This includes the same methods with fewer hours. It’s usually 3 days a week for 3 hours a day.

You may not be sure which is the right choice. That’s totally understandable! This is probably all new for you. You can always contact the experienced staff at Northeast Addictions Treatment Center to discuss your options. We’re happy to give you some guidance and help you take the first step towards sobriety!

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

It’s important to remember that addiction is a disease, and diseases are treated with medication. Recent research has uncovered a wide variety of effective medications, so the best treatment centers offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

MAT can be a highly effective part of your recovery toolbox. It’s especially effective when combined with another tool: therapy. In fact, the best MAT programs require therapy and/or counseling.

MAT programs can do the following:

  • Reduce withdrawals and their side effects to keep you safe and comfortable.
  • Treat your dual diagnosis, including disorders like PTSD, anxiety, and/or depression.
  • Block the effects of alcohol and/or opioids.
  • Reduce your cravings for alcohol and/or opioids.

Northeast Addictions Treatment Center offers MAT to our qualifying patients. Plus, we allow you to build a full recovery toolbox by also including counseling and/or therapy. This means you can build a customized treatment plan that fits your specific needs.

How to Use Your Insurance to Pay for Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Now comes the hard part: how do you pay for this? Isn’t rehab expensive? It’s true that outpatient treatment is less expensive than inpatient, but it still costs money.

This is where your health insurance comes in – insurance companies can cover some or all of your treatment. Plus, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires them to treat addiction like any other disease or health condition. They also can’t deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

Additionally, as we discussed above, insurance companies are more likely to pay for outpatient versus inpatient rehab. In fact, if it’s your first time getting treated, they usually send you to outpatient rehab first. If it doesn’t stick, they’ll then cover inpatient treatment.

This all depends on the specifics of your plan, so you’ll have to find out what they’ll cover. You can do that in two basic ways:

  • Contact the insurance company - Look at your card, find the Member Services number, and give them your Member ID Number. Then provide them with the info for the treatment center and see if they’ll pre-approve treatment. In some cases, they’ll require a referral first.
  • Contact the rehab - Treatment centers frequently have staff who specialize in coverage and can help you find out what will be covered.

Northeast Addictions Treatment Center works with a variety of different insurance companies. If you’d like, you can fill out an insurance verification form and we’ll help you determine your coverage. We appreciate that cost is frequently a concern for our clients, so we’ll work with you to get the treatment you need at the price you can afford.

Most Popular Questions in Fitchburg

Let’s take a moment to look at the most popular questions to make sure you get all the information you need.

Am I a good candidate for MAT?

This will depend on your addiction and medical condition. MAT is most frequently used for people struggling with addiction to alcohol or opioids. However, Northeast Addictions Treatment Center is also a dual diagnosis rehab, so we can also use medications to treat your mental health. Finally, patients qualifying for MAT cannot use drugs or alcohol at the same time as the medications.

Is outpatient rehab safe during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Untreated addiction can be incredibly dangerous, so you should try to stay in treatment. To combat the spread of the virus, rehabs practice social distancing and have tightened their cleaning policies. Always wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, stay 6 feet away from others, and carry a portable bottle of hand sanitizer. If you have underlying conditions that put you at a greater risk, speak to your primary doctor about your concerns.
