What Does A Halcion High Feel Like?

Halcion is a benzodiazepine. When it is abused, it can produce feelings of euphoria and extreme drowsiness.

A Halcion high can make you feel lightheaded, drowsy, euphoric, and uncoordinated. Beyond these desirable or pleasurable effects, Halcion can also cause adverse effects in both the short-term and long-term.

Halcion is a brand name benzodiazepine that can treat insomnia. Its generic name is triazolam, and this drug may not be prescribed for over 10 days at a time. Like other benzodiazepines, it is a Schedule IV controlled substance with a potential for drug addiction and abuse.

Getting high on Halcion can be a form of drug abuse. Halcion can be a target of abuse due to its potency and short half-life compared to other benzodiazepines. Chronic abuse of Halcion may be a sign of a substance use disorder.

Effects Of A Halcion High

Immediate effects of a Halcion high may include:

  • lightheadedness
  • dizziness
  • sedation
  • drowsiness
  • impairment
  • euphoria

These common side effects may be weaker in lower doses and stronger in higher doses.

Getting high on Halcion may cause an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can be dangerous, as patients may not know they are allergic until they take the drug. Reactions to Halcion may include rash, swelling, and trouble breathing.

Uncommon Side Effects Of Halcion

Halcion use has been linked to instances of complex behaviors while patients were asleep, such as sleepwalking, operating a vehicle (“sleep-driving”), and preparing food. Memory loss was also part of these events, as patients had little to no memory of these events after they happened.

The link that triazolam and other sedative-hypnotic drugs may have on these behaviors may not be known. Abusing Halcion may increase your risk of extreme sleepiness and these potentially dangerous behaviors.

Causes Of A Halcion High

A Halcion high may be caused by high amounts of gamma aminobutyric acid, or GABA, in the central nervous system (CNS). GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that can slow brain activity, and triazolam may increase concentrations of this neurotransmitter in the brain.

Slowed CNS activity can cause sedative effects, as well as the high associated with Halcion abuse. However, the unregulated use of Halcion to get high can increase the risk of serious side effects.

Risks Of Getting High On Halcion

While getting high on Halcion can have pleasurable effects in the short-term, the overall risk to your health may outweigh the benefits.

Halcion Overdose

Abusing Halcion can lead to a higher risk of an overdose, as high doses of the drug may be involved. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports Halcion’s overdose threshold at around 2 mg, which is about four times the maximum recommended dose of 0.5 mg.

Halcion abuse may cause unintended and dangerous drug interactions. Certain prescription drugs and products, such as opioids, antidepressants, and even grapefruit juice, may increase the potency of Halcion and lead to an overdose.

A triazolam overdose can cause respiratory depression, slurred speech, and coma. These effects can be life-threatening without immediate treatment.

Halcion Addiction

Halcion can be habit-forming, leading to a cycle of chronic drug use and declining health. It is possible to develop a physical dependence on triazolam, where the body needs the drug to function properly.

Physical dependence can lead to Halcion withdrawal symptoms when trying to quit. These conditions may combine with drug addiction to create a substance use disorder.
